Phillips Rotary Harrow

Designed for the way we farm today ...

Today, farmers anxious to increase profits and protect their most important investment, their land, have a number of management tools available to them. Computers, satellite published market prices, radar weather reports and better access to information about new farming practices. All these can play a role in the bottom line. Now we'd like to introduce you to a new management tool that can help with some of the toughest challenges you face.

Whether it's chemical efficiency through effective incorporation, soil moisture or most importantly residue management, the Phillips Rotary Harrow can  assist today's farmers in managing these better.

Tools Built To Last

The heart of the Phillips Rotary Harrow is the interlocking tool assembly. This patented tool assembly was originally developed in Australia and Precision Metal fabricating is licensed to manufacture it in North America. Our tool design is better than our competitors'. The design of the tines forces the tool to come into contact with the ground more often. By disturbing more of the soil surface, a better, more even job is accomplished. The rotary tine tool is made from superior 1060 heat-treated steel, unlike others that use cold formed steel. There's little or no breakage with ours.

Our V-design frame is better, holding much better on hillsides than other A-frame designed machines. Because our tines turn as they work the soil, they last a lot longer than the conventional drag harrows. The bearing assembly is designed for years of trouble-free use.

The Phillips Rotary Harrow is quite flexible and can be used in extremely stony conditions.

Residue Management

The Phillips Rotary Harrow has an exceptional ability to work in heavy residue and trash without plugging or bunching. No-till and minimum-till farmers are using our harrow to fluff the residue mat and work (dry, aerate) the very top of the soil. This operation dries and warms the soil surface and seed bed to enable farmers to get at their land earlier.

Soil Moisture Management

How can you manage rain? You can't. Either you get too much or not enough! In either case, the Phillips Rotary Harrow can help manage soil moisture. In dry falls, the rotary harrow incorporates herbicides shallow, leaving residue standing to trap winter snow and shade the soil from evaporation. In a wet spring, the harrow can aerate and dry the soil and residue prior to seeding. It only takes 140 horsepower to pull it in most conditions, and it can work in wet conditions when no other tillage implement will.

Weed Management

When used in early fall, the Phillips Rotary Harrow can encourage early germination of weed seeds and volunteer grains prior to freeze up.

Farmers harrow in the fall to get good seed to soil contact for improved germination. Our harrow leaves the residue standing to hold the soil and snow over the winter.

Seed Bed Preparation

The Phillips Rotary Harrow is very effective at breaking up crust in clay soils. It also levels out ridges left by other tillage implements. Our harrow gives you light tillage without without disturbing the seed zone.

Incorporation

Achieve shallow incorporation of granular chemical with our harrow as its mixing action incorporates chemical in a superior manner. It makes the best use of the chemical by eliminating the "banding effect" often experienced with other tillage implements. A rotary harrow that penetrates one and a half inches can move soil applied herbicides as deep as with three inch sweep cultivation. The strong design of the machine's frame makes mounting a granular chemical applicator a very simple task, right on the hitch. We provide mounting brackets for popular chemical applicators. This combination can also be used to seed small seeds, including forage. The rolling action of the rotary harrow mixes the seed as well.
